Why period support matters

Period poverty is not limited to one country or one community. Around the world, millions of girls miss school because they do not have access to menstrual products or do not have the information they need to manage their periods with confidence. What should be a normal part of life becomes something that causes shame, absence and silence.

This is not only about physical products. It is about dignity, education and self-worth. When a girl feels prepared and informed, she shows up differently. She participates. She asks questions. She feels less alone.

The reality in Ghana

In many parts of Ghana, period products are still not consistently affordable for families. In some schools, girls improvise or stay home altogether. At the same time, open conversations about menstruation are still growing, which means many girls experience their first period without guidance.

Education changes that. When girls understand what is happening to their bodies, fear becomes knowledge. When boys are included in the conversation, stigma begins to reduce and empathy grows.

Pads With Purpose

Pads With Purpose is the menstrual health arm of People With Purpose. It focuses on providing products, education and safe spaces for honest conversations.

Our recent outreach supported 200 girls through a collaboration with EcoPeriod Africa and The Akaya Foundation. Together we distributed period kits and held educational sessions that encouraged questions, openness and confidence.

That day was not just about giving items. It was about listening, laughing, learning and reminding the girls that their experiences matter.

How this connects to our wider work

Pads With Purpose will continue to be part of our broader community outreach. As we prepare for our upcoming orphanage support, menstrual education and products will be included wherever they are needed. No girl should feel overlooked.

This work will grow at the pace of our resources, but the intention remains the same. Consistent support, honest education and dignity in every space we enter.

How You Can Be Part of This

Period support is everyone’s responsibility.

You can support our work by:

  • Donating products

  • Contributing financially

  • Volunteering at outreach sessions

  • Sharing our message

Together, we can make sure no girl feels ashamed, unsupported or alone.
